Ildiko “Ildi” Baldwin
August 14, 1951 – February 2, 2025

It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Ildiko Baldwin, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister, aunt, teacher, and friend. Ildi peacefully passed away as snowflakes fell on Sunday the 2nd of February 2025, at the age of 73.

Born in Miskolc, Hungary, on August 14, 1951. She was raised by her parents Ilona and Frank Talaber. In 1956, she and her younger brother, Attila, along with their parents, fled Hungary during the Hungarian Revolution, immigrating first to Toronto, Canada, before moving to the United States in the summer of 1962.

Ildi was a longtime resident of Thurston County, Washington, where she built a life with her husband of many years, Rodney Baldwin. Together they shared a life of adventures, family and memories.

Ildi raised two daughters, Kristina Dohring and Katrina Holmes, with her first husband, Walter Dohring. She was also the proud grandmother of Imre Barnes-Dohring and Amelia Barnes-Dohring.

After graduating from Saint Placid High School in 1970, Ildi earned her teaching degree from Saint Martin’s College in 1974. She devoted over 30 years of her life to teaching kindergarten and first grade at Holy Family School, where she touched the hearts of countless young students. She later spent the final years of her career teaching for the Thurston County School District, continuing her lifelong passion for education.

A deeply spiritual person, Ildi was a devoted member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church, St Benedict’s Episcopal Church, and Saint John’s Episcopal Church. She believed in the power of spirituality and service to make the world a better place, living her life with kindness, compassion, and a commitment to helping others.

Ildi’s legacy of love, faith, and teaching will continue to inspire all who knew her. She is survived by her loving husband, Rodney Baldwin; daughters, Kristina Dohring and Katrina Holmes; grandchildren, Imre and Amelia Barnes-Dohring; her brother, Attila Talaber: four stepchildren; step grandchildren; a step great grandson; extended family; and a community who adores her.

A funeral service in memory of Ildi will be held on February 20, 2025, at 11:00 AM at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Lacey, Washington. All who knew her are welcome to attend and celebrate her life.
