Meals for Many: Shelter Meal Program
MEALS FOR MANY is a new feeding ministry for SBC. On the third Tuesday of each month we deliver 30+ lunch meals to the homeless being sheltered in Unity Commons. This new structure, managed by Interfaith Works, opened in December 2021 and was the first project built with funding from Olympia’s Home Fund, which voters passed in 2018. This structure is across from the VFW on Martin Way and features a 60-bed shelter on the ground floor and 65 apartments whose tenants will receive support services designed to build independent living and tenancy skills on the 2nd floor.
SBC provides lunch meals on the third Tuesday of the month for 30 or more for those in the emergency shelter on the ground floor. The daily need at Unity Commons is to feed 60 individuals both lunch and dinner. Other faith groups and individuals sign up on the Interfaith Works calendar to provide meals. SBC is pleased to be part of filling the food gaps.
The lead on this ministry is Spence Daniels, who can be contacted at olyguyz@comcast.net or 360-943-7537. We will need assistance to carry out this ministry. Folks are needed to help prep, assemble, cook, bake or transport these lunches. Cooking will take place at SBC kitchen but baked items could be done at your home and delivered to SBC in time for delivery. Funds to provide such meals would come out of the Outreach Budget.
